Blood and American Indians: Part 2
Elizabeth Warren, candidate for the U.S. Senate from Massachussetts, has been caught in the dilemma of “blood quantum,” the rule that whites used to define “Indianness.” But many other American Indians face this same issue, and one of the hottest issues across Native America is, “Who is Indian?”
Ecocide or Genocide – Debunking the Biggest Easter Island MythThe ancient Easter Island people is known for depleting their natural resources, leading to hunger, chaos, tribal warfare and cannibalism, exterminating themselves. This story is often used as a parallel to our own way of treating the planet. The only problem with this image of the Easter Island history is that it is wrong.
Overpopulation Is Just A MythThe earth is our starship and the human population is on an amazing, endless journey through time and space. We cut through light years of distance at incredibly high speeds, in an elliptical orbit around the sun, somewhere within one of the better neighborhoods of our galaxy; along one of the many dark back roads in the universe. So in a very real sense, we are all just passengers riding on this marvelous blue ball that has no driver; like a train without an engineer, we are heading toward no set destination. Indeed, the journey is the destination; a journey that will continue on long after we are gone, until our sun eventually burns out. If anything happens to this starship, then we are all doomed, because we have no other place to go. Overpopulation is generally the undesirable condition brought up by politicians around election time referring to how various populations exceed the carrying capacity of their habitat. The expression often refers to the relationship between the human population and its environment, the earth, or one of the countries on it. Whether or not it is a valid concern remains to be proven.
Blood and American Indians: Part IElizabeth Warren, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, is in the hot seat. In a document she filed some years ago with Harvard, her employer, she said that she had some American Indian ancestry. Warren did not provide proof of tribal membership – such as “blood quantum” – but referred to family conversations. Scott Brown, her Republican opponent, said that Warren wasn’t American Indian because she did not “look Indian.”
Does the Spirit World Involve Itself in Earthly Affairs?Strange things happen all the time. Some hitherto unacceptable matters, for example, accurate psychic predictions; apparent interventions in human lives by God or other comparable agencies; the appearance through the medium of clairvoyants of the spirits of dead people; the sighting of an imputed spirit guide; and other events which can only be described as psychic phenomena, can lead one to realise that there may be more to life that what is provable scientifically. This would lead to the new believers being posited against sceptics – a contest of beliefs, each side being denied proof.
What Evidence is There to Support the REality of Reincarnation?Reincarnation, as an autonomously-operating mechanism relating to the rebirth of human souls on Earth, underpins the desert religion of Hinduism and its associated faiths. Modern Westerners offer reincarnation as a mechanism involving choice at rebirth for those who claim that they can do and be anything they are able to choose; but lack persuasive credence. In spite of acceptable evidence provided by little children, reincarnation in the Hindu version remains a faith; yet it is a useful guide to the Void.
Seeking A Glimpse Into The AfterlifeNot everyone fears death. There are some, believing in reincarnation and the benefits that this process offers for learning, who look forward to a life between Earthly lives. This article offers issues arising from an effort by a Seeker of knowledge to obtain a glimpse into the Afterlife.
What Made Nationalism in Thailand Different From That in Most Other Southeast Asian Countries? The nationalism of the Thai people is very profound. So, one cannot help but wonder where did it come from? In this article, we will attempt to explain the root of their nationalism which is unlike any other Asian countries.
Events Which Could Not Possibly Have OccurredModern man is a rational being, in the main. Through education, he generally learns the realities about human behaviour and the physical world in which he exists. So, when a youth is exposed to events which not possibly have occurred, who would believe him? Were they aberrations of his mind? Experienced reality challenges conditioned reality.
Improbable Insights Into The Reality Of ExistenceFor a rational skeptical person to find, after a lifetime lived to the full, that the spirit world exists, is a great surprise. When the events experienced cannot be denied because of the accuracy of the information made available, and also because the Seeker of knowledge exposed to the events is told that the spirit world is playing a significant role in his life, what is he to do?
Political Correctness and Inefficienct CommunicationPolitical correctness reduced overt prejudice and exposed inaccurate stereotypes. Insulting verbal and written language was “corrected.” However, the Great Political Correctness Purge went too far. The English language was impoverished and made less efficient in transferring information. All stereotypes were condemned, when in fact, stereotyping is essential in understanding the world, devising strategies to deal with the world and behaving accordingly. Fortunately, the PC police seem to have lost their fervor and the siege on the English language is loosening.
Altruism in the 21st CenturyHumans are the most intelligent and the most deeply social of all species. Our intelligence and social cohesion have enabled us to survive harsh and threatening times in the past. So, our ability to survive and flourish into the future, to avoid threatened social and global disasters, and ensure a stable world, is in part at least dependent of social cohesion and altruism.
