Of all our founding fathers it was Thomas Jefferson who understood that education was vital for the preservation of our liberty. He also knew that the abuses of power would undermine and eventually destroy the republic. Today, our elected officials too many are out of control.

With great fondness I look back on a life well lived. Sure, there were times of anguish and sorrow but overall I remained steadfast to my convictions. But, as I remember many a time those convictions got me into a whole lot of trouble.

History is an invaluable tool for if used wisely the lessons learned chances are history won’t repeat. But, too often it has been our own failure to not heed the lessons that history is supposed to teach us. Today, we find ourselves on the verge of yet another period when history is again playing out similar scenarios that have occurred more than 80 years ago.

Just two more days to pass for the assembly elections and parties are keeping their fingers on who will win the prestigious Telangana assembly elections. It is December 2018. Some eight months before there was an aura of invincibility cultivated by the ruling party by splitting the opposition parties that made the party without strong opposition.

If you live and work inside the U.S., and particularly if you were born in this country, you probably don’t give much thought to the different dialects that exist within our borders.

For the sake of my answer, I’m going to use the more commonly used word ‘spanking’ to describe the more broadly defined ‘corporal punishment’ or ‘physical punishment’. Given that the great majority of reported Child Abuse cases involving injury are associated with acts of spanking, the number of countries instituting bans on spanking continues to grow.

The first time I encountered self-inflicted American guilt, I was touring the outback of Australia. We had traveled there to observe, photograph, and document the ways and lives of the Australian Aborigines.One afternoon a fellow American and an European were talking and the European actually complimented America on our way of life and how good life was in the United States.In response, the American woman actually made a statement in which she denied feeling good about being an American and living in the United States. Over the years we Americans have developed a guilt complex about our prosperity. We tend to forget what we have sacrificed to make our country prosperous and free, we forget how much America has done for the world and our mission to bring freedom to everyone, regardless of race, creed, national origin or gender.

Exercise caution when evaluating progressive candidates who flaunt their religion. While preferable to far-right, divisive fundamentalists, God-besotted liberals are also a hazard to the preservation of what remains of our secular Republic. The public interest in a secular democracy is not well served by politicians sparring over who is a good Christian or the number one believer candidate. Who cares, or should care? Let the faithful have these discussions, but insist that religion remain the focus in churches, not during candidate forums or political campaigns.

As the age of my years have caught up the hopes and dreams I had when I was a young man so many have withered and died on that vine of many lost opportunities. Those bittersweet moments where time slipped away haunt me now. The weathered beaten wrinkles of this tired old face are constant reminders of the hardships I have faced.
