WE OFTEN SEE TERRIBLE PICTURES OF HAITI, so impoverished with pictures of desperate children and jobless men walking aimlessly around the capital city of Port-au-Prince. The impression is a silhouette to its rich natural resources, it’s breathtaking scenery and most importantly, their lovely people. When we think of the word ‘Haiti’, some conjure in their minds, little black people stretching their hands for food and risking their lives over hundred of miles of shark infested reefs, to a land of opportunity. Not so; we will bring light to this great yet intriguing land and go back into its history to see from whence it came.

Although Japan is a tiny country in size made up of even smaller islands, its dense population is rich with diversity and the language reflects that in regional dialects. While standard Japanese is a monotone-like sound derived from the Tokyo accent, the multiple dialects and accents range from the lively and expressive southern accent to the somewhat comical Kansai accent to the islander Okinawan accent. Even if you are fluent in Japanese, you may very well be unable to understand many local dialects.

What does it mean to be human? Every culture on earth shares certain behaviours.

Given all the other problems we’re facing today, is it worth trying to save the elephant? Absolutely. But can we? We have the intelligence, the ingenuity, and the means to do so. We have a grand quantity of knowledge… but do we have sufficient quality of knowledge, i.e. wisdom?

Very few things threaten people more than having their worldview challenged. And when something arises that threatens their worldview, the first reaction is to destroy it. We see this with Hurricane Carter.

There are no more vicious reactions than is found in people who are seeing their worldview being threatened. When one believes that only Christian nuclear families can produce successful people, a person who does not come from a Christian nuclear family who becomes successful becomes a refutation of their worldview. And this attracts extremely vicious reactions, all the way to believing the person to be the Antichrist.

The article is about human perception and reality. It describes how the our senses can sometimes betray us and create fleeting or even persistent illusions.

Racism allows individuals to abdicate responsibility for their actions. It distracts us from the fact that we all make distinctions about others based, unconsciously, on similarity and difference.

Could it be that out of the seemingly endless number of planets in the universe, earth could be singled out as the only planet home to life? If it were only us all along, then, the universe seemed to have lavishly wasted an awful lot of space!

We’re aware that once upon a time our ancient ancestors lived day-to-day as nomadic hunters and gatherers. Then, roughly 10,000 years ago, in various locations around the globe, we ceased our wanderings, put down roots as rural agricultural-based settlements, and became civilized. Anthropologists cannot tell us why. Mythology does tell us why – the gift of agriculture was from the gods. What to those cultures were gods, we can interpret as ‘ancient astronauts’.
